The most powerful representative of the ice age has returned to its natural habitat. The new six-meter high and over seven-meter long wooden mammoth will welcome visitors of all ages at the Eisgrat mountain station in front of the impressive glacier scenery.

In more than 2,500 working hours, approx. 14,000 nails, 2,300 screws and 3,000 wooden shingles were used to build the mammoth, which weighs around 12 tons. The experts of the Stubai-based company NaturIdea used Tyrolean larch, some of which came directly from the Stubai Valley, as this is considered extremely weather-resistant. After eight months of planning and four and a half months of construction time, the mammoth with its 3.5 meter long tusks, each weighing 300 kg, with steel core was ready.

It was finally transported in four parts from Medraz in the Stubai, the headquarters of NaturIdea, to the Mutterberg valley station. A forwarding company brought the individual elements to the foot of the Stubai Glacier.

There they were loaded onto four-wheel drive trucks of the Pfurtscheller Hoch- und Tiefbau company, also based in Stubai, and transported in four carriages via the Wilde Grub'n to the top station Eisgrat.

A total of one and a half days kept everyone involved busy and thanks to the good preparations everything went like clockwork. However, the avalanche galleries were very exciting, absolute centimeter work was required here.
