This imposing cathedral is located by the main square of Arequipa. It was built in Neoclassical style in 1656 but since then it was razed by earthquakes and fires and what is now there to be seen little connection has with the original construction.
Its main material is a white volcanic rock named sillar. There is a museum which can be visited. Access to the cathedral is free. Specially beautiful by sunset: in some days the white of the facade looks like painted in orange.
