McCord Memorial Library is located on the corner of West Main and Park Streets in North East, Pennsylvania. Built in 1916, the library was funded by, and thus named after, John McCord, a former North East resident who had moved to Chicago. The building was expanded in 1975 and was made wheelchair accessible with the addition of an elevator in 1992. The library was funded by the North East School Board for many years, but since 1970 it has been funded by a direct township tax, as well as private donations. The library's collection holds over 40,000 items. The library partners with the other libraries in Erie County for lending purposes. Visitors with children are encouraged to visit the extensive children's library on the ground floor.
