A wooden alms or poor box in St Peter's church, Stonesby.
It is cylindrical in shape, and rather clumsily strengthened by iron bands. About four inches in diameter, it appears to have been made by hollowing out the wood. The lid has a slot for coins. It is located on the pillar nearest the south door. These boxes were the main source of funds for poor relief before societies decided to organize the process and make the public authorities responsible for this.
