Not long ago, this was a silver hydrant with an orange cap, and it had probably been this way since the 1990s. In 2019, Create Ardmore and the Ardmore Fire Department worked together on a beautification effort in which fire hydrants in the downtown Cultural Arts District -- a comparatively small number compared to the over 1600 hydrants that the Ardmore FD has to maintain throughout the area! -- would be given the glamour treatment. As the Ardmore FD requires that the hydrants have a specific color cap -- red, orange, green or blue -- to indicate how much water pressure each tank has behind it, they did the priming work, leaving local volunteers to use their imaginations and minimal guidelines in the effort.

The hydrant is primarily dark blue, just like the ship that is stuck in the form of an old British police call box, with the orange cap being retained as the light that flashes when the TARDIS travels. The detail is really nice, down to the box's panels extending all the way down to the lower standpipe, and the white windows on two sides and on one outlet cap. "Police Public Call Box" is on two sides of the cap, and a white rectangle with an accompanying star identifies the creator as "L. Fleming."

An interesting coincidence is that this is a Kennedy brand hydrant, as identified in multiple locations on the fixture. Doctor Who premiered on November 23, 1963, but the news of its launch was overshadowed by the Kennedy assassination the day before. This prompted a rerun the following week, and frankly, the show was not received well until its second story, "The Daleks", but that's another tale.
