The round tower is a smaller image of the keep of "Burg Katz". It also has a top floor, which protrudes onto a round arch frieze and merges into an octagon towards the eaves. The tent roof of the tower takes up the octagonal structure and has four roof houses. The similarities are clear and suggest that Katz Castle and the city fortifications were built around the same time.
For a long time in its history, the round tower served as the city's night watch. It also functioned as a city clock, which can still be seen today on the tower clock. The round tower, also known as the market tower due to its proximity to the plan (former market square), now has a slope of 41 cm to the east and 63 cm to the north. Due to his clear inclination, he received the title "The Leaning Tower of Sankt Goarshausen" as another nickname. The possible cause of this inclination is probably the proximity to the Forstbach estuary, which is unsafe building ground and could result in the inclination.
The round tower as part of the city fortifications is a registered monument (list of monuments Rhein-Lahn-Kreis, p. 49) and is located at Marktplatz 2. In 1979, it was given a white-painted plaster with contrasting architectural elements to match its medieval appearance.
