This beautifully carved and gilded reredos was designed by Emmeline 'Nina' Cust (1867–1955). It was given by her in memory of her mother, Lady Victoria Welby. More correctly Lady Welby-Gregory, a self-educated English philosopher of language, musician and watercolour artist - she married Sir William Earle Welby-Gregory, 4th baronet (1829–1898), who was active in British politics. She and Sir William lived together at Denton Manor in Lincolnshire. They had three children, including a daughter, Nina, who married Edwardian rake and publisher Harry Cust.
