USS Cod is a Gato-class submarine, the only vessel of the United States Navy to be named for the cod, an important and very popular food fish of the North Atlantic and North Pacific. Her keel was laid down by the Electric Boat Company of Groton, Connecticut on 21 July 1942.

The Cod is open to the public daily from May through September from 10am to 5pm. Cost is $12 for adults, $10 seniors and veterans, $7 youths (grades K-12). Preschoolers and active duty in military uniform are admitted for free.
