This wagon wheel is made of steel and is approximately four feet in diameter. It is attached to a boundary fence blocking access to the runways of Buckingham Field, FL59. Buckingham Field, is a private-use airport owned by Lee County Mosquito Control District. On both sides of runway 14/32 is the Buckingham Airpark which has deeded access to the airport with access gates to the runway.
On the eastern fence-line and runway access gate to the airfield at the intersection of Industry Ave. and Flightline Ct. is a wagon wheel attached to the fence. This is one of six wheels attached to the fence-line of the runway. No further information is available as to where the wagon wheel came from or why it is attached to an airport boundary fence.
Numerous other waymarks are nearby for visits. The Lee County Mosquito Control headquarters at the end of Homestead Road on the western side of Buckingham Field has a small museum with information on the history of the airport when it was a World War II Army base. More potential waymarks for posting are available around the airport runways and surrounding neighborhood.
