The Art Gallery, a two-storeyed Georgian Revival masonry structure with a corrugated iron gable roof. The symmetrical Abbott Street elevation, which once formed the main entry, consists of an Ionic portico with two columns flanked by pilasters with a circular window in the pediment. The Shields Street facade has a narrower portico forming what is now the main entry with smaller arched windows to either side.
The whole Shields St facade has been spoilt by the roof over the outside cafe
