This quote from Psalm 25 is on the base of a statue of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph in Calvary Cemetery on West Lake Road in Erie, Pennsylvania. The statue in near numerous graves of the Sisters of Saint Joseph.
The quote is from the 8th verse of Psalm 25 (26 in the Hebrew numbering of the Psalms), and states: "I have loved, O Lord, the beauty of thy house, and the place where Thy glory dwelleth." This translation of the Psalm is the Douay-Rheims version. Verses 6-12 of this Psalm, including the one at the base of this statue, were traditionally recited by a priest during the Mass when he washed his hands. This is known as the "Lavabo," from the first word of verse 6, which says, "Lavabo inter innocentes manus meas, et circumdabo altare tuum, Domine," or in English, "I will wash my hands among the innocent; and will compass thy altar, O Lord."
