Sacred Heart Church of 1847
Brief History
Spanish missionaries already served the Nacogdoches area since 1716, but the Right Reverend John M. Odin, D.D. established the first parish of Sacred Heat in 1847 with funds raised by Father A. Chanrion. This wooden structure stood for 90 years on North Pecan St.
In 1937, carpenters dismanted the church and moved it from North Pecan to Fern Lake on Old Lufkin Rd where construction for St. Ann's Chapel had begun. St. Ann's was completed in 1951 and served as a chapel until 1983.
The building was relocated here in 2008 and after a complete restoration was rededicated in 2013.
