This memorial is dedicated to the actor Heinz Erhardt (1909-1979), who shot eight films in Göttingen. His best-known role was the traffic policeman Eberhard Dobermann in the film "Natürlich die Autofahrer" (engl. "Of course the drivers"), where he regulates the traffic at the Weener Tor.

Heinz Erhardt was born in Riga in 1909 and grew up mostly with his grandparents, where he came to play the piano through his grandfather. He studied piano and composition in Leipzig because he wanted to become a pianist, which his grandparents did not support. That is why he worked in the grandfather's art and music shop from 1928-1938. In addition, he appeared in Riga with comical texts and songs in coffee houses, where he made a name for himself. In 1938 he went to Berlin to the "Kabarett der Komiker".
After World War II he settled in Hamburg. He worked on the radio, celebrated great success in the cinema (including the films shot in Göttingen) and appeared on stage as a comedian.
In 1979 he received the "Große Verdienstkreuz der Bundesrepublik Deutschland" ("Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany"), but died just 4 days after receiving the award.

The statue is life-size, made of vapor-coated Plexiglas and weighs approx. 20kg. Heinz Erhardt wears a traffic police uniform with dark trousers, white jacket, hat and white gloves. One hand is outstretched to the side and the other is bobbing forward.
In 2003 the figure was erected. The figure was stolen in September 2019 and could be put up again two months later, after it was found.
