This is a gray granite slab on a granite base, standing between three and four feet tall. There is text on but one side, with an image of the state of Texas at the top, a star noting the location of Detroit. The text reads:

In honor and memory of the good
lives of these people who had made my
life better, than if I had not have
known them Dec. 1986

Edythe DeWitt -- 1986

Mr. and Mrs. Lon Blake
Mr. and Mrs. C.D. Bourne
Mr. and Mrs. D.C. Chambers
Mr. and Mrs. John Chappell
Mr. and Mrs. F. DeWitt and Viola
Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Holloway and Vista
Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Kerbow
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Latimer
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Morgan
Mr. and Mrs. Van Morgan
Dr. W.N. and Stella Mullins
Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Pearce Sr
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ritchie
Mr. and Mrs. Lee Russell
Dr. H.R. Smith and Eujean
Mr. and Mrs. Martin Upchurch

"Mr. and Mrs. F. DeWitt and Viola" were her parents and sister. Otherwise, there is no suggestion to be found as to how or why these folks were so important to Miss DeWitt or why she honored them. She herself passed on in 1993, and is buried with her family in the Detroit Cemetery. Some of those referenced on the memorial are also buried there, a few of whom had passed on decades before the memorial was placed. We know more about her than we do them, thanks to an obituary from the Geni website (a capture of which is in the gallery in case the link should go invalid some day). It notes that she had a serious background in the fine arts, having studied at Kidd College (Sherman, TX), the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in Ohio, and the New York School of Music. She was a music and dance teacher as well as a music publisher, and operated a studio in Paris, TX for thirty-five years.
