FR Le cimetière Saint-Pierre est un cimetière d'Aix-en-Provence ouvert en 1824, situé dans le quartier Saint-Pierre. Un cimetière juif et un cimetière protestant se trouvaient déjà à cet emplacement et ont été intégrés au nouveau cimetière, beaucoup plus vaste. La translation des dépouilles et monuments se trouvant autour des églises d'Aix fut effectuée en 1837. Son entrée principale est située sur sa face Est, rue des Déportés de la Résistance aixoise, et une entrée secondaire se trouve sur sa façade Sud, traverse Saint-Pierre. Là se trouve également l'unique entrée du cimetière juif qui demeure séparé du reste par un mur.

Description
Certaines tombes déplacées en 1837 sont anciennes. Le cimetière juif comporte des pierres rapportés de cimetières d'Afrique du Nord.
L'architecture de certaines tombes est intéressante, depuis celle de la famille L. Louis Gautier qui fait penser à une petite basilique orthodoxe jusqu'à celle du sculpteur Jean Amado qui comporte une œuvre originale, sorte de gros galet dans lequel apparaît une croix, en passant par de nombreux monuments en faux gothique ou de type grotte, en pierre meulière, voire imitation rondins, en ciment. La tombe de Sextius Alexandre De Miollis, dignitaire du Premier Empire né à Aix, occupe une position stratégique au centre du cimetière.
Le cimetière Saint-Pierre comporte un grand nombre de monuments commémoratifs :
  • Un mémorial de vastes proportions aux Français d'Algérie et aux rapatriés d'Algérie, du Maroc et de Tunisie
  • Un monument aux morts représentant la France embrassant un soldat mourant
  • Un mémorial de vastes dimensions aux Héros de la Résistance et aux Martyrs de la Libération aixoises
  • Un mémorial aux soldats indochinois morts pour la France en 1914-1918 et 1939-1945, avec inscriptions en français, chinois et vietnamien
  • Un mémorial dédié en 1956 par Ceux de Verdun au souvenir de la bataille de Verdun, mémorial contenant de la terre de Douaumont
  • Un mémorial aux morts de guerre d'Afrique du Nord et des Territoires d'Outre-Mer (AFN-TOE), couvrant notamment les conflits l'Indochine et d'Algérie, et en mémoire des veuves et orphelins de ces guerres.
  • Un monument des prêtres
  • Mémorial à ceux qui ont donné leur vie pour l'honneur de la France érigé par la Société nationale du Souvenir français
  • Une plaque aux victimes juives connues et inconnues, du fait de la Déportation ou de la Résistance.

EN The Saint-Pierre cemetery is a cemetery in Aix-en-Provence opened in 1824, located in the Saint-Pierre district. A Jewish cemetery and a Protestant cemetery were already on this site and were incorporated into the new, much larger cemetery. The remains and monuments found around the churches of Aix were transferred in 1837. Its main entrance is located on its east face, rue des Déportés de la Resistance aixoise, and a secondary entrance is on its south facade, crosses Saint -Pierre. There is also the only entrance to the Jewish cemetery which remains separated from the rest by a wall.

Description
Some graves moved in 1837 are old. The Jewish cemetery contains stones brought from cemeteries in North Africa.
The architecture of some tombs is interesting, from that of the L. Louis Gautier family which is reminiscent of a small Orthodox basilica to that of the sculptor Jean Amado which includes an original work, a sort of large pebble in which appears a cross, passing by many monuments in false Gothic or cave type, in millstone, even imitation logs, in cement. The tomb of Sextius Alexandre De Miollis, dignitary of the First Empire born in Aix, occupies a strategic position in the center of the cemetery.
The Saint-Pierre cemetery has a large number of commemorative monuments:
  • A memorial of vast proportions to the French from Algeria and to returnees from Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia
  • A war memorial depicting France embracing a dying soldier
  • A large memorial to the Heroes of the Resistance and the Martyrs of the Liberation of Aix
  • A memorial to the Indochinese soldiers who died for France in 1914-1918 and 1939-1945, with inscriptions in French, Chinese and Vietnamese
  • A memorial dedicated in 1956 by those of Verdun to the memory of the battle of Verdun, a memorial containing land from Douaumont
  • A memorial to the war dead of North Africa and the Overseas Territories (AFN-TOE), covering in particular the conflicts in Indochina and Algeria, and in memory of the widows and orphans of these wars .
  • A monument of priests
  • Memorial to those who gave their lives for the honor of France erected by the Société Nationale du Souvenir Français
  • A plaque with known and unknown Jewish victims, due to the Deportation or the Resistance.
