The parish of Murroes covers a rural area in the county of Angus around three miles or so to the north-east of the city of Dundee. Its war memorial to those lost in the First World War is situated at a junction of minor roads in a countryside location.
The memorial was unveiled on June 11th 1921 and was built by masons Garden & Co. of Aberdeen. It is a tall grey granite monolithic rustic column on a base with a saddle type cap. All inscriptions are on the north face with at the top a lion rampant relief and at the bottom a crossed flag and sword. The inscription in black lettering reads:
'IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE HEROES OF THE PARISH OF MURROES WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-'18'
