This is a quote attributed to George Washington:

"The willingness with which our
young people are likely to serve
in any war, no matter how justified,
shall be directly proportional as to
how they perceive the veterans
of earlier wars were treated and
appreciated by their nation."

In researching the origins of the quote I have found that there is a question of authenticating it as an original by George Washington. The internet is forever, so, alas, it is likely to be perpetuated and re-quoted as "authentic" George wisdom.
