The Grotto of Christ the King and Mary His Mother and its surrounding edifices were built between 1920 and 1930 as an act of devotion by the Reverend Father Mathias Wernerus and his cousin and housekeeper, Miss Mary Wernerus. The grotto contains a figure of the Virgin Mary holding the Infant Jesus, carved from a single slab of marble at Carrara, Italy, by a friend of Father Wernerus. Surrounding the grotto is a wall in which are set the statues of the Apostles and St. Paul and St. Joseph.

My Commentary
This is absolutely stunning. We actually drove through Dickeyville on our way back to Dubuque not knowing this shrine and grotto was here. Even with the Covid situation in June, several people from all over the country stopped and paid their respects. It was amazing to see all of the different materials used in the construction of this grotto - definitely well worth the stop.
