This is a quite large version of general sundials.
There are two possibilities to find the sundial:
If you start from Munich Centre, take the Underground U2
and ride to station "Messestadt Ost". When you exit the Underground in
esternly direction (moving direction of the arriving trains) you will
see the sundial in front of you.
If you want to start a trip in Munich you can leave your car at the
Park & Ride lot directly beside the sundial coordinates (Parking is
free for Underground users). On your way to the Underground you must
pass the sundial.
Nearby the Underground entrance/exit there is a description how the
sundial works.
Here is the translation of this description:
The edge of the funnel cast a shadow
on wall and floor.
When the shadow edge is crossing the
appropriate line for midwinter, midsummer, vernal equinox or autumnal
equinox, the CET (Central European Time) can be metered by the hour
digits.
For the months in between the time can be estimated by the date and
hour lines.
Sundial Type: Armillary Sphere - series of rings in plane of equator
