This fine brick courthouse, constructed in 1916, replaced an earlier 1905 wooden structure. Many of the old Texas Renaissance architectural features of the courthosue are now gone, and a newer annex has been added to the south side, but the old cornerstone remains. The north face of the stone gives the year and names the architects and contractor; the east face (partly obscured by a downpipe) names judges and district commissioners. A National Geodetic Survey disk is nearby, on the north side of the building.
