This statue of the Risen Christ is located Gate of Heaven Cemetery along West Lake Road in Erie, Pennsylvania. The statue depicts Christ looking upward after his resurrection. The base of the statue has two verses from the Revelation to St. John (also known as the Apocalypse), which state, "There is nothing to fear. I am the first and the last, and the one who lives. Once I was dead but now I live forever and ever" (Rev. 1:17-18).

Christians believe that Jesus Christ, after suffering and dying on the cross, and being laid in a tomb, was resurrected on the third day and appeared to his apostles and disciples numerous times before ascending into heaven. Christ's resurrection is described in all four of the Gospels in the New Testament. This resurrection is a central tenant of the Christian faith and the hope of all who die in Christ.
