The inscription on this stamp says “Greetings from New Jersey” but it might as well say “Greetings from Atlantic City.” Though the image on the stamp is highly stylized, there is no doubt that the most prominent buildings are those of Bally’s Hotel and Casino. And for anyone who’s ever played Monopoly, its address says it all: Park Place and Boardwalk.
The Bally’s complex is a conglomerate of old and new. The older building in the foreground is the former Dennis Hotel which opened about 100 years ago. The newer, more modern tower that looms behind it, opened in 1989. (The stamp’s design cleverly avoids reproducing the Bally’s name at the top of this tower.)
The stamp, issued in 2002, was one of fifty different designs featuring postcard-like images from each of the fifty states.
