Rogersville Home Horse Mounting Block ~ Rogersville, Tennessee - Historic Upping Stones, Hitching Posts, and Carriage Blocks on Waymarking.com

There is a Tennessee Historical Marker without a reference number here in front of this old house, but is Waymark code WM68QF. The marker reads that the Church was organized in 1805 and in 1824 this cemetery was first used. In 1838 the Church split into the Old School or First Church and the New School or Second Church and this cemetery continued in use by the First Church. In 1881 the two churches were merged under the name of Rogersville Presbyterian Church.

This house is now being restored, and this mounting block is in the common location that you find them near the house, about 20 feet from the back door. I did find the old draw well not far from the mounting block, it's been filled in with rock now. I have been unable to research as to whose home this was, and where the Old Rogersville Presbyterian Church was exactly located. This home is just outside the cemetery wall.

This mounting block is made of a slab of limestone about three feet long by two and a half feet wide. On top of that are two more limestone blocks. It's located between the back door and old draw well.
