The coronavirus does not prevent Xavier Audebert from predicting the return of the heyday of commerce and tourism. Assembly of the merry-go-round at Place du Commandant de la Motte-Rouge started on Monday.

The few passers-by who used Place du Commandant-de-la-Motte-Rouge may have been surprised this Tuesday morning, as businesses in the city center pulled the curtain in accordance with state regulations. But assembly of the La Rochelle Ferris wheel started on Monday despite the coronavirus epidemic.

Xavier Audebert, who manages the equipment appreciated by tourists as well as that of Royan, explains that he "had the authorization of the town hall" before the speech by the President of the Republic, Monday evening. Authorization which was confirmed this Tuesday morning.

Le coronavirus n’empêche pas Xavier Audebert de prévoir le retour des beaux jours du commerce et du tourisme. L’assemblage du manège de la place du commandant de la Motte-Rouge a démarré lundi.

Les quelques passants qui ont emprunté la place du Commandant-de-la-Motte-Rouge peuvent s’en être étonnés, ce mardi matin, alors que les commerces du centre-ville ont tiré le rideau conformément aux prescriptions de l’Etat. Mais l’assemblage de la grande roue de La Rochelle a bel et bien démarré, lundi, malgré l’épidémie de coronavirus.

Xavier Audebert, qui gère l’équipement apprécié des touristes ainsi que celui de Royan, explique avoir "eu l’autorisation de la mairie" en amont de l’allocution du président de la République, lundi soir. Autorisation qui a été confirmée ce mardi matin.

A condition, bien-sûr, de prendre toutes les précautions utiles pour faire barrage à l’épidémie. Il n’y a, ainsi, que cinq personnes sur place en plus du patron, organisées pour se croiser le moins possible. Elles sont équipées de gants, de gel hydroalcoolique et le public ne peut accéder au chantier, qui doit durer deux semaines.

Durant l’hiver, le colosse de métal qui culmine à 40 mètres a été démonté et complètement révisé par la société Le Camus de La Rochelle. "Bien sûr, on n’ouvrira que le moment venu. Mais dès que ce sera possible, on ne perdra pas 15 jours à monter la roue, on sera prêts?!
