This is a common model, with logs and an open book -- the Book of Life or a Bible -- at the top, with the Gates of Heaven complementing the Woodmen of the World emblem. Note the anchors and calla lilies for detail. The family name, "Carpenter", is on the plinth, and the inscription reads:

Walter I. Carpenter

Born
Nov. 3, 1874,

Died
Nov. 18, 1912.

---

A loving husband, a father dear,
A faithful friend lies buried here.
