"It was in the 18th century a garden of monks which already bore this name in 1610 when it was only a simple orchard, with a deep excavation called" Hell ". And the monks did not always find the calm and serenity sought due to the intrusions of troublemakers. The Thabor or Thabor park, located near the city center, in the Thabor district, is a public park built on more than ten hectares whose particularity is to mix a garden with French, an English garden and an important botanical garden. Its name refers to a limestone mountain of Israel dominating in the southwest the lake of Tiberias, mount Thabor.

The development and enlargement of the Thabor park took place in successive waves. In 1862 Jean-Baptiste Martenot established greenhouses. First a simple public walk, then equipped with a botanical garden, the park was laid out between 1866 and 1868 by Denis Bühler who set up lawn bowls, hell, French gardens and English gardens. At the beginning of the 20th century, the southern part of the park, called "les Catherinettes", was developed as an extension of the English garden and overlooks the rue de Paris with the arrangement of artificial rocks and a waterfall and descent to the street by the transfer of monumental staircases around the Motte. A music kiosk was put into service in May 1880.

" C'était au 18e siècle un jardin de moines qui portait déjà ce nom en 1610 alors qu'il n'était qu'un simple verger, avec une profonde excavation dénommée "Enfer". Et les moines n'y trouvaient pas toujours le calme et la sérénité recherchés faute aux intrusions de trublions. Le parc du Thabor ou Thabor, situé à proximité du centre ville, dans le quartier Thabor, est un parc public aménagé sur plus de dix hectares dont la particularité est de mêler un jardin à la française, un jardin à l’anglaise et un important jardin botanique. Son nom fait référence à une montagne calcaire d’Israël dominant au sud-ouest le lac de Tibériade, le mont Thabor.

Le développement et l'agrandissement du parc du Thabor se sont fait par vagues successives. En 1862 Jean-Baptiste Martenot implante des serres. D'abord simple promenade publique, puis muni d'un jardin botanique, le parc est aménagé entre 1866 et 1868 par Denis Bühler qui mit en place le boulingrin, l'enfer, les jardins à la française et les jardins à l'anglaise. Au début du 20e siècle, la partie sud du parc, appelée « les Catherinettes », est aménagée en extension du jardin anglais et donne sur la rue de Paris avec aménagement de rochers artificiels et cascade et descente jusqu'à la rue par le transfert des escaliers monumentaux du contour de la Motte. Un kiosque à musique est mis en service en mai 1880.
