The Woodmen of the World emblem is at the center of a fairly stout log that tops this granite monument. The family name, "Metze", is in relief on the plinth, and across the front and back are banners with what appear to be clover leaves. Note the same on each side of the supports for the log. The inscription reads:

Paul R. Metze
Mar. 5, 1885
May 17, 1907,

God gave and God hath taken away.
By His Grace we will meet you Paul
on the golden shores of eternal
rest. It will not be long.
Was the inscription legible?: Yes
