Description: From Find A Grave: Merchant .Patron of the arts and artists such as Alfred Jacob Miller (1810-1874) and William H Rinehart(1825-1874).William was one of the first major collectors to purchase contemporary European artists .He was also fond of Asian art. After the Civil War , William and his family returned to Baltimore and their Mount Vernon home . where once a year William would open the doors of his home and exhibit his art collection for a small fee of 50 cents , which went to charity . After his death in 1894 his art collection was bequeathed to his eldest son Henry , who expanded the collection and officially opened the Walter's Art Gallery in Baltimore ,Maryland
