" A cet endroit, l‘hospice des Catherinettes accueillait des femmes et des enfants socialement défavorisés. En 1881 la Ville de Rennes acquiert les terrains de l‘hospice afin que le parc du Thabor soit accessible par la rue de Paris. L'espace est aménagé selon le projet de l'ingénieur Blin ; le jardinier chef réalise, avec l‘aide d’un rocailleur rennais, les cascades, emmarchements, ponts et grotte en béton, imitant l'aspect du bois ou de la roche.
A l'emplacement d’anciennes carrières, l‘une des cascades qui sautait le talus adossé à la grotte a aujourd'hui disparu ; elle laisse place à la cascade monumentale qui se jette dans l’axe de l'escalier donnant accès à la rue de Paris. Cet escalier a été initialement érigé en 1832, au contour de la Motte, par l‘architecte municipal Millardet pour marquer l'inauguration du réseau d'adduction d'eau de Rennes. Il fut démonté pour être reconstruit en 1902 à son emplacement actuel, permettant d'aménager une nouvelle entrée au Thabor. L'œuvre sera achevée en 1912 par la construction de la grille en fer forgé dessinée par l‘architecte Emmanuel Leray."

"At this location, the Catherinettes hospice welcomed socially disadvantaged women and children. In 1881 the City of Rennes acquired the hospice grounds so that the Thabor park could be accessed via rue de Paris. fitted out according to the project engineer Blin; the head gardener realizes, with the help of a rocker Rennes, waterfalls, steps, bridges and concrete cave, imitating the appearance of wood or rock.
At the site of ancient quarries, one of the waterfalls that jumped from the slope backing onto the cave has now disappeared; it gives way to the monumental waterfall which flows into the axis of the staircase giving access to the rue de Paris. This staircase was originally erected in 1832, around the Motte, by the municipal architect Millardet to mark the inauguration of the Rennes water supply network. It was dismantled to be rebuilt in 1902 at its current location, allowing for a new entrance to Thabor. The work will be completed in 1912 by the construction of the wrought iron gate designed by the architect Emmanuel Leray. "
