North Staffordshire's newest Costa has finally opened (and it's only drive-thru for now)
"The cafe will open when screens are fitted
The wait is finally over for coffee lovers after a Costa Coffee branch opened as a drive-thru.

The outlet, off the A34 at Talke, welcomed customers on Friday. It is currently just serving takeaway options until the indoor cafe is fitted with screens.

Manager Ash Mathews, aged 29, said: "The first day was quiet, but Saturday was very busy.

"We are just a drive-thru at the moment. We are just waiting for screens to be put up in the store and we will be opening up following Government guidelines. It will be at least three weeks before our screens can be put up."

The Costa branch - opposite the Cauldwell Tavern - sells a wide range of drinks including tea, cappuccino, latte, Americano cortado, caramel cortado, expresso, macchiato, hot chocolate, iced coffee and tea and frostino.

It also sells breakfasts including such as a meal deal with a bacon or sausage bap. There is also a meal deal at lunchtime, with customers able to buy a sandwich, crisps and a drink for £4.95.

And for those with a sweet tooth, there are a range of cakes, biscuits and treats including millionaire's shortbread, salted caramel brownie, blueberry muffin, wafers, panettone and biscotti.

Ash, who manages 11 staff, added: "At the moment, the drive-thru is open from 7am to 6pm, seven days a week. When we are back to normality, it will open from 5.30am to 10.30pm, seven days a week, with the store closing at 9pm.

"NHS staff will get a free drink if they can show proof of their employment ID."

Customers have welcomed the drive-thru opening.
John Arnold, aged 50, from Church Lawton, who visited the drive-thru with Jayne Hill, said: "We only live down the road so it is convenient for us."
Jayne, aged 45, added: "I love the stuff they sell. I prefer it to Starbucks. We are going to be regulars."
Jessica Mantle, aged 28, from Talke, said: "The man who served me was really nice. It is the first time I have been and I will definitely come again."
Jordan Harvey and Emily Mansell, both aged 24, and from Talke, enjoyed their experience at the drive-thru.
Emily said: "It is absolutely fantastic. It is in a great location and is really convenient for us. The staff are really lovely and there is a good choice of menu.
"It is brilliant for us as we both leave for work early in the morning."
Costa Coffee is due to be joined on the site by Greggs, but it is not known when it will open."
