Description: From Find A Grave: United States Navy Rear Admiral. (correction four star Admiral) Awarded the Navy Cross for actions during World War II. Air Wing Division 1. His citation reads: The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Rear Admiral John Dale Price, United States Navy, for extraordinary heroism and distinguished service in the line of his profession while serving as Commander of Air Wing ONE (AW-1), in action against the enemy from April through July 1945, while deployed at Okinawa in the Ryukyu Islands. Rear Admiral Price planned and directed the flights of his command over extensive enemy-controlled sea lands and vital enemy-held areas dangerously close to the Japanese Homeland. Forceful and aggressive, he was in large measure responsible for the success of these strike groups in sinking 159 hostile ships and in damaging 29 enemy aircraft. His conduct throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the Navy of the United States.
