"Mention sur le même site de trois édifices successifs : le premier, un grand ensemble du 4e siècle avec cour entourée d'un portique, le deuxième, une église mérovingienne bâtie entre le 5e et le 7e siècle et le troisième, une cathédrale préromane du 9e siècle.
Son plan à deux absides opposées (l'une à l'est, l'autre à l'ouest) est unique en Bretagne. On le retrouve, à la période carolingienne, à la cathédrale de Cologne et à celle de Besançon.
Au 12e siècle (1145), le siège de l'évêché est transféré à Saint-Malo, puis au 13e siècle (vers 1255), la cathédrale d'Alet est rasée en même temps que les murailles de la cité.
L'abside orientale sera plus tard aménagée en chapelle dédiée à saint-Pierre, une date de 1675 était encore visible au début du siècle.
En 1868, (daté par travaux historiques) la chapelle est restaurée et bénite. Les fouilles menées de 1972 à 1978 par le centre régional d'archéologie d'Alet ont permis de découvrir les plans des édifices successifs. Aujourd’hui le site présente une consolidation des fondations de la cathédrale préromane. "

"Mention on the same site of three successive buildings: the first, a large complex of the 4th century with courtyard surrounded by a portico, the second, a Merovingian church built between the 5th and the 7th century and the third, a pre-Romanesque cathedral of the 9th century.
