The beginnings of the history of this building arise as a result of the supply necessities of the increasing population that settled around the Puerto la Luz. The construction of this port, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, accompanied of a lighthouse of first order constructed in the most southern end of the island, called Maspalomas, which it served as signal all the ships that sailed by there, lighthouse of unquestionable importance in navigation for being Great Canary the first island of the group that is in that direction. Then a supremacy occurred to the Archipelago that has been able to dispute neither Madeira nor Cabo Verde.
