Wethouder C. Zijdeveld heeft op 26 september 1992 voor de Korenbeurs dit derde bronzen standbeeld onthuld dat herinnert aan drankverleden van Schiedam. De eerste twee zijn "De Brandersknecht" (1985) en "De Zakkendrager" (1987), later volgde een vierde beeld: "De Kuiper" (1995).
Het beeld werd vervaardigd in opdracht van het comité De Schiedamse Brandersknecht. De kosten, ongeveer 70.000 gulden, zijn bijeen gebracht door distillateurs uit heel Nederland.

Theo Stevens (1926) is afkomstig uit Tilburg. Hij volgde de HTS bouwkunde in Den Bosch, academie voor Vrij Schilderen en Beeldhouwen in Tilburg en Nationaal Hoger Instituut voor Beeldende en Bouwende Kunsten in Antwerpen. Hij is werkzaam als architect en beeldend kunstenaar en als docent creatief werken, schilderen en tekenen. Zijn beeldhouwwerken zijn aangekocht door ministeries en geplaatst in diverse Nederlandse gemeenten. Theo werkt met materialen als steen, hout, terra cotta, metaal, keramiek en brons. Zijn onderwerpen zijn zowel figuratief als non-figuratief. Persoonlijke ontroering staat centraal en opvallend is een diepe medemenselijkheid.

Alderman C. Zijdeveld unveiled on September 26, 1992 for the Korenbeurs this third bronze statue that recalls the drinking history of Schiedam. The first two are "De Brandersknecht" (1985) and "De Zakkendrager" (1987), later a fourth image followed: "De Kuiper" (1995).
The statue was commissioned by the De Schiedamse Brandersknecht committee. The costs, approximately 70,000 guilders, were collected by distillers from all over the Netherlands.

Theo Stevens (1926) comes from Tilburg. He followed the HTS architecture in Den Bosch, academy for Free Painting and Sculpture in Tilburg and National Higher Institute for Visual and Building Arts in Antwerp. He works as an architect and visual artist and as a teacher of creative work, painting and drawing. His sculptures were purchased by ministries and placed in various Dutch municipalities. Theo works with materials such as stone, wood, terra cotta, metal, ceramic and bronze. His subjects are both figurative and non-figurative. Personal emotion is central and striking is a deep compassion.
