Located a bit off the center, this cemetery is a tourist attraction. Eventually a local guide will offer his services to anyone vaguely looking like a tourist.
It's a large cemetery and see it all will be extenuating, specially in a hot day.
It was originally designed in 1790 but it took over 100 years to be inaugurated, which happened in 1892.
There are several areas, with different styles. Some tombs are special due to the historical significance of those buried there and there are a couple of monuments dedicated to specific groups, like veterans and professional of some given occupations.
Walk from the center is possible, it will be about 2 km in each direction. But there are plenty of local buses passing here. Be aware that the cemetery closes for lunch time. It's open Mon-Fri from 8-11am and 2-5.30pm, and Sat-Sun from 8am-5.30pm.
