"The square on 1 May was originally called the old square or Piazza vecchia, as it was once considered the main square and the main streets of Piran converge on it. In the middle of the square there is a stone rainwater collector, which was built after a severe drought in the 18th century. Gutters from the roofs of the surrounding houses were led into the collector. Water seeped through the stone blocks and was collected in a large well. The water was pumped with a hand pump, which has been preserved until today. The entrance to the platform is decorated with statues of justice and law."
