The 3D relief 'you are here' map is located on the High Dam pay and display carpark in the village of Finsthwaite in the Lake District. It was placed by the Lake District National Park Authority.
The metal relief map is mounted on a large wooden bobbin as a tribute to the local Bobbin industry. The nearby Stott Park Bobbin Mill was powered by water from the High Dam Tarn. Wood from the local trees was turned into bobbins for the Lancashire cotton mills.
The relief map shows the village of Finsthwaite, with houses, roads, directions the stream and High Dam Tarn.
The map is inscribed around the circumference and reads as follows;
"Made by the people of Finsthwaite
This is the water that turns the wheel, that spins the lathe, that shapes the wood, to make the bobbin, to wind the thread, that wove the wealth of Lancashire. These are the trees, that cut by men will sprout again, to feed Stott mill, to make the bobbins, to earn the pay, for the folk of Finsthwaite."
