Located in the Wild Turkey Strand Preserve approximately 10 miles east of Fort Myers, Florida is a hand operated pitcher pump. This pump appears to be a modern version of an older style Campbell's pitcher pump that was popular in the United States in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is believed that the pump is a Simmons 1160 Pitcher Pump. This style pump is designed for shallow wells not deeper than 25 feet. It is also believed this is still a working pump, however due to it being locked it was undeterminable. The pump sits next to a vault toilet in the parking lot of the preserve and is assumed to be used for cleaning the toilet building.
