This ford can be found in the Angus countryside to the north of the small town of Kirriemuir. It occurs on an unclassified road which links the B955 on the northern outskirts of the town, to the C25 (Angus) road near Cortachy. The narrow undulating public road runs northwards for nearly two miles serving a few rural settlements. Towards its northern terminus, the road dips sharply into the valley of the Quharity Burn and crosses the water without the need of a bridge. The watercourse is around fifteen to twenty feet and warning signs indicate this as a ford.

For pedestrians, a wooden footbridge does cross the burn via a footpath some twenty yards to the west of the ford.
