It is unsual to have a wooden font in a church. Carved by Robert Thompson, a North Yorkshire furniture maker, known as the “Mouseman of Kilburn” (visit link) due to the mice he carved as his signature. It was made to match the pulpit and the lectern which had also been carved by Thompson.

It is dedicated memory of Third Officer Peter L. Whitaker, only son of the Rev and Mrs A L Whitaker, who was killed in a naval action in the Indian ocean in November 1940.
