Joshua Feilds, who is the assistant manager at Kamps Cafe in downtown Oklahoma City, said it's normally slow at times, but not this slow.

The slowdown comes after local officials have urged people to avoid public gatherings. On Monday, President Donald Trump advised the public to avoid groups of 10 or more people, a directive that restaurants are going to have a hard time swallowing.

"Never seen anything like this before," Fields said.

According to Fields, customers are not coming into Kamps Cafe as much since the COVID-19 coronavirus hit the metro. He told KOCO 5 that they're doing whatever it takes to keep those who do come in safe.

Staff has practiced some social distancing inside the restaurant, limiting the number of people who can come in and separating them.

"Having to ask customers to leave because there's too many breaks my heart," Fields said.

Fields has encouraged customers to still patronize Kamps Cafe and other local restaurants, but to do so by ordering take-out or having their food delivered in order to keep their favorite restaurants afloat through the economic crisis.

Although having 10 or fewer people inside restaurants is not required at this time, local restaurant owners and managers told KOCO 5 that they will adjust to whatever rules they need to in order to keep patrons safe.
