Korenmolen Windlust, waarvan de historie teruggaat tot 1586, maalde eeuwenlang trouw het graan voor klanten in Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel en omstreken. Eigenlijk is ze nooit echt weg geweest, alleen stond ze bijna 50 jaar, zonder wieken en kap en steeds meer vervallen en verwaarloosd, aan het Kortenoord, en daardoor iets minder zichtbaar aanwezig. Half in de dijk verdwenen en een beetje scheef deed ze dienst als graansilo. Maar gelukkig werd Windlust in volle glorie hersteld. De molenstomp en “bijgebouwen” (graanmaalderij) werden op 4 januari 1999 door de Stichting Molen Kortenoord “in oprichting” aangekocht. Dankzij de medewerking van Rijk, Provincie, Projectgroep Hollandsche IJssel, Gemeente, Rijksmonumentendienst, Hoogheemraadschap Schieland en tal van sponsors, donateurs en vrijwilligers, werd in vijf jaar en 5 maanden tijd Korenmolen Windlust in oude luister hersteld. Op 20 mei 2005 werd het molencomplex, bestaande uit de korenmolen, het molenaarshuisje, Dagcentrum Korenaer met theeschenkerij, werkplaats en bakkerij (voor cliënten met een verstandelijke beperking), onder grote belangstelling officieel geopend. In de jaren daarna werden nog een fraaie aanlegsteiger en een trap bij een nieuwe fietsenstalling met informatiebord, onder aan de dijk tussen Nieuwerkerk en Moordrecht, in gebruik genomen. Kortom, het is de moeite waard om een bezoek te brengen aan dit historische plekje aan de Hollandsche IJssel, waar Korenmolen Windlust tot in lengte van jaren haar herwonnen glorie zal blijven uitstralen!!
De molen is gebouwd met orginele ijsselsteentjes, een kleinere baksteensoort die vanaf de 15e eeuw in diverse plaatsen langs de Hollandse IJssel geproduceerd werd. Ook in Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel zijn hier op 1,5 kilometer afstand van de molen nog oude steenovens te vinden.
Voor de restauratie van de molen zijn door een vaste groep vrijwilligers in totaal 78.300 ijsselsteentjes afkomstig uit slooppanden schoongebikt!!! Deze steentjes zijn verwerkt in de gewelven onder de molen waar het dagactiviteiten centrum de Korenaer is gevestigd en om de molenstomp te herstellen.

On May 20, 2005, the mill complex, consisting of the flour mill, the miller's house, Day Center Korenaer with tearoom, workshop and bakery (for clients with intellectual disabilities) was officially opened with great interest. In the years that followed, a beautiful jetty and a staircase were put into use at a new bicycle shed with an information sign, at the bottom of the dike between Nieuwerkerk and Moordrecht. In short, it is worth visiting this historic spot on the Hollandsche IJssel, where Korenmolen Windlust will continue to radiate its regained glory for years to come !!
The mill is built with original IJsselsteenjes, a smaller brick type that was produced in various places along the Hollandse IJssel from the 15th century. Also in Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel you can still find old brick kilns 1.5 kilometers away from the mill.
For the restoration of the mill, a permanent group of volunteers cleaned a total of 78,300 IJssel stones from demolition buildings !!! These stones have been incorporated in the vaults under the mill where the day activity center de Korenaer is located and to restore the mill stump.
