"Crissay Castle is a complex construction resulting from several close campaigns of construction and destruction.The current building, for the most part, was built at the end of the 15th century.
The initial project does not seem to have been fully realized. By its general appearance and its decoration, the castle presents archaic dispositions that one would tend to date higher in the century. The dendrochronological study of 1991 showed that a large part of the samples (beams of the ceiling of the second floor and attics) had been slaughtered between 1495 and 1496.
This building has very well preserved layout in its distribution (large room having preserved some of its decor and its original doorframes, monumental fireplace with architectural decoration, ceiling composed of joists placed on the corner to support trapezoidal stone slabs , etc.).
This building, which seems to have never been completed, is accompanied by a chapel from the first third of the 16th century, transformed into a barn even before the Revolution. The common, adopting an L-shaped plan and internally modified, are probably the old noble house of the 14th century.
They were still inhabited after the construction of the new castle if one considers that a new decoration was plated on the facade in the second half of the 16th century. "

Le projet initial ne semble pas avoir été réalisé entièrement. Par son apparence générale et son décor, le château présente des dispositions archaïques qu'on aurait tendance à dater plus haut dans le siècle. L'étude dendrochronologique de 1991 a montré qu'une grande partie des échantillons (poutres du plafond du deuxième étage et combles) avaient étés abattus entre 1495 et 1496.
Cet édifice présente des dispositions très bien conservées dans sa distribution (grande salle ayant conservé une partie de son décor et ses huisseries d'origine, cheminée monumentale à décor architecturé, plafond composé de soliveaux posés sur l'angle pour soutenir des dalles de pierres trapézoïdales, etc.).
Cet édifice, qui semble n'avoir jamais été achevé, est accompagné d'une chapelle du premier tiers du 16e siècle, transformée en grange dès avant la Révolution. Les communs, adoptant un plan en L et modifiés intérieurement, sont probablement l'ancienne maison noble du 14e siècle.
Ils étaient encore habités après l'édification du nouveau château si l'on considère qu'un nouveau décor a été plaqué sur la façade dans la deuxième partie du 16e siècle. "
