The flood in Chrudim was caused by a cloudburst over Hlinsko on the night of 12 to 13 August 1880. In a few minutes, Hlinsko and the settlements in the river Chrudimka found themselves under water and the water tore down the bridges and destroyed the houses. In Chrudim, all the lower parts of the town were flooded (large lakes of water formed on both banks of the river from Kopanice to Májov - the water rose 4 meters above normal). According to the regional press, it was the biggest flood since 1804 - in addition to the immense material damage to houses and crops, the flood also claimed one human life.
