The memorial is a small bronze plaque affixed to a rock to one side of the cemetery gate, and it reads:
In Grateful Appreciation
To
J.E. and Vivian Fields
Whose vision, unselfish devotion,
untiring energy and leadership
brought about the perpetual
care of this cemetery.
---
While "perpetual care" is often and erroneously believed to be "eternal care", it still an immense undertaking to provide long-term care for any burial ground, regardless of its location and surrounding population density. Obituaries for Mr. and Mrs. Fields can be found through the link below, but unfortunately, there is little to indicate what exactly their contributions were. They were both residents of Ravia, so they were presumably cemetery caretakers, and if the cemetery has an association, they were probably active on it. They could have also provided financial assistance in some shape for form. Mr. Fields was a carpenter who had also installed microwave towers across the country, while Mrs. Fields managed the lunchroom in a school in Texas.
