This cemetery (founded 1708) and the church (built 1841) was located on a hill side that overlooked Loutre Island, which was in the Missouri River at that time. Whit channeling and control over the river, it now flows about 2 miles south of this sit today.
The official name for this cemetery is Loutre Island Brick Church Cemetery.
"There is usually some confusion with the Loutre Island Cemetery, which was at one time ON the island, and today is located in Montgomery County, MO not very far from here (about 2½ miles west). This cemetery is a much older cemetery and contains many pioneers of Warren County, MO. Most death certificates do not distinguish between either. The other cemetery is mostly an African-American cemetery today...was a pioneer cemetery back then.
