Depicted Baroque statue of St. Sebastian (Sv. Šebestián) crowns a stone Corinthian column which can be found in village square of a small South-Moravian village Slup.

Early-Baroque statue of St. Sebastian from an unknown author from 1680 on a Corinthian column was restored after a lightning strike in 1913. The column is a compositional dominant and a significant small sacral architecture in the village square of Slup.

On the square base is a cubic plinth with a small segment-terminated niche on the front and preserved German inscriptions on the sides. On the pedestal is a square plintus, from which grows a cylindrical column with a smooth shaft and a richly decorated Corinthian-type head complemented by angel mascarons. At the top of the column stands the traditionally conceived statue of St. Sebastian in a loincloth, chained to a tree. The martyr is chained by his arms and legs in a dynamic composition, with his left hand raised above his head bowed to the right, his right leg bent at the knee and three metal arrows in his body.

Saint Sebastian (died c. 288) was a Christian saint and martyr, who is said to have been killed during the Roman emperor Diocletian's persecution of Christians. He is commonly depicted in art and literature tied to a post and shot with arrows. This is the most common artistic depiction of Sebastian; however, he was rescued and healed by Saint Irene of Rome before haranguing the emperor and being clubbed to death. [wiki]
