M4 Sherman - Salta, Argentina - Military Ground Equipment Displays on Waymarking.com

This M4 Sherman is on display on the grass in a huge roundabout in Salta. This roundabout is formally divided in three parts, one dedicated to the Army, other to the Air Force and the third one to the Gendarmerie. There is other equipment, like 4 pieces of artillery and an aircraft. All but the aircraft are painted in a funny green, resembling the plastic solider toys and their equipment.

Sadly the tank shows signs of vandalism. Although it's structurally in pristine condition, there is graffiti and plenty of (human?) feces under the hull.


Shermans were used by the Argentinian Army until May 1998. At least officially, as its effective use terminated some years before. However, these Shermans were modernized in the country. Read here an excellent article about this history of Shermans in Argentina:
