The Place:
The Barry J. Kaplan Bridge is a pedestrian bridge located in Katy, TX. It connects the Rick Rice Park to the Mason Creek Hike and Bike trail, a long suburban walking trail along the Mason creek.
Designed by the architectural firm TBG Partners and commissioned by the Interstate Municipal Utility District (MUD), it was completed in 2012.
The bridge is a true work of art, and its two arches are equipped with a series of remote-controlled LED lights. Its lighting is quite unique in the evening hours!
The Person:
Barry J. Kaplan is the Board President of the Interstate Municipal Utility District (or "MUD" for short), which is a commercial entity that represents the area from Interstate Hwy 10 ("I-10") to Kingsland and from Westgreen to Mason. Rick Rice Park itself was the brainchild of Barry J. Kaplan: he came up with the idea to convert an unused piece of land into a public park, and spent countless hours championing for its creation until it finally opened in the Summer of 2009.
Year it was dedicated: 2102
