A large dome above the entrance foyer of the Great Hall in the Aston Webb Building. This large saucer-shaped dome features an attractive yet deceptively simple plaster panelled design with gently curved ribs radiating at an oblique angle from its centre and overlapping one another. The panels are painted blue while the ribs have been painted white.
Externally the dome is made from iron plates which are riveted together, and it is believed that the frame was made on the ground and lifted into position. "Timber boards were laid over the frame as the base for the lead-cladding.* Each of the domes in the Aston Webb Building were constructed in a similar manner and "feature a layer of concrete over the timber, possibly to provide a smoother base for the lead.*
